Chicken Seekh Kebab Recipe

Authentic Chicken Seekh Kebab Recipe – Flavorful and Juicy Every Time

Nothing beats the aroma of freshly grilled Chicken Seekh Kebabs tender, smoky, and bursting with spice. This traditional dish, popular across South Asia, combines minced chicken with a medley of aromatic herbs and spices to create a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The recipe uses everyday ingredients like cumin, garam masala, yellow chili powder, and white pepper to achieve a balanced and irresistible flavor profile. What makes this recipe extra special is the addition of finely chopped ginger, onions, and fresh coriander, which add freshness and depth to every bite.

To prepare, whisk two eggs with cumin powder, yellow chili powder, white pepper powder, salt, and a bit of oil. Mix this into one kilogram of minced chicken and let it rest for 10 minutes. Then add crushed cashew nuts, ginger, onions, coriander, and garam masala — the true heart of the kebab’s flavor. Shape the mixture onto skewers with wet hands, leaving space between portions, and cook them in a tandoor or oven until golden brown. Once done, brush with butter for a glossy finish and serve hot with onion rings and lemon wedges. Each bite is soft, flavorful, and perfectly spiced — just the way seekh kebabs should be.

Ingredients

  • Chicken, minced – 1 kg

  • Eggs – 2

  • Cumin (Jeera) powder – 1 tbsp

  • Yellow chilli powder – 1 tsp

  • White pepper powder – 1 tsp

  • Salt – to taste

  • Vegetable oil – 4 tsp

  • Cashew nuts (pounded) – 4 tbsp

  • Ginger (finely chopped) – 2 tbsp

  • Onions (chopped) – 4 tsp

  • Green coriander (chopped) – 5 tbsp

  • Garam masala – 1 tsp

  • Oil – for basting

  • Butter – for brushing

Directions

  • In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and add cumin powder, yellow chilli powder, white pepper powder, salt, and vegetable oil.

  • Add the mixture to the minced chicken and mix thoroughly. Let it rest for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.

  • Add the pounded cashew nuts, finely chopped ginger, onions, green coriander, and garam masala. Mix again until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  • Divide the mixture into 10 equal portions. With wet hands, wrap two portions along each skewer, leaving about 2 inches of space between them. Prepare a total of 5 skewers.

  • Roast the kebabs in a moderately hot tandoor or charcoal grill for about 6 minutes, or until golden brown. Alternatively, you can roast them in a preheated oven at 150°C (300°F) for about 8 minutes, basting once with oil during cooking.

  • Remove from the skewers and brush lightly with melted butter to enhance the flavor and give a glossy finish.
